Bangladesh, the second largest market for garment exports
Bangladesh is the second largest market for garment exports. As per Bangladesh import export data, its garments exports were around 54 billion US Dollars in 2022. The Bangladeshi garments exports were 15% higher than the previous year.
As per past 6 months export data reports of Bangladesh, Knitted Clothing (12 billion), Woven Clothes (10 billion), Textile exports (600 million) and Home textiles (27 billion) were the most exported categories of garments by Bangladesh in 2021.
Bangladesh trade data reports reflect that its total exports were around 42 billion USD in 2021. On the other hand, the total imports by Bangladesh are worth 93 billion US Dollars. Experts suggest that the Bangladesh garments industry could seek 6% growth by 2024.

Bangladesh exports by country suggests that the exports were to the United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Spain and France. Refat Garments, Chittagong asian apparels limited, and Universal jeans limited were the top Bangladesh suppliers in 2021.
According to the Bangladesh exports 2022 data reports, Garments, jute products, textiles, footwear, frozen fish & shrimps, frozen fish, shrimps, agricultural goods, pharma products, carpets, cotton terry towels and furniture were Bangladesh major exports with high exports value. In the future, Bangladesh Garments and textiles industry will seek more positive growth.
Top Bangladesh Imports 2021-22
According to the Bangladesh import data, Bangladesh major imports were Raw Cotton (8.1 billion), Mineral Fuels (6.3 billion), Electronics (6.1 billion), Electrical Equipment (4.1 billion), Iron & Steel (3.4 billion), Cereals (3.2 billion), Plastics (3 billion), Vegetable/Animal fats & Oils (2.1 billion), Knitted fabrics (2 billion) and Vehicles (1.74 billion).
China, India, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia were the top import trading partner countries of Bangladesh. Eastern Refinery, Padma Oil Company and Bangladesh chemical industries were the top Bangladesh buyers in 2021. Petroleum oils, textile, iron & steel, edible oils, chemicals, plastics, and grains were the top imports products of Bangladesh in 2022.
Bangladesh-India Trade Relations
Bangladesh shares strong trade relations with India. As per India export data to Bangladesh, Bangladesh imports from India worth 19 billion US dollars in 2021. These include Cotton (3.45 billion), Cereals (2.21 billion), Mineral Fuels, Oils (1.21 billion), Vehicles (910 million), and Machinery, Reactors (682 million).
According to the India import data from Bangladesh, Bangladesh exports to India totaled around 1.6 billion US dollars in 2021. Clothing & Apparel (not knitted) (281 million), Animal/Vegetable fats & Oils (221 million), Apparel & Clothing (Knitted) (184 million), Textiles & Fabrics (129 million) and Aircrafts, Spacecrafts (120 million) were the most imported goods by Bangladesh from India.
