Indonesia Wheat Imports Increased by 12% amid global crisis

As per Indonesia import export data reports, Indonesia's total wheat imports for the financial year 2023 were around 11 million metric tons. The total import value for wheat from Indonesia was 4.69 billion US Dollars in 2022.

Indonesia wheat imports from India were estimated to be around 7 million US Dollars in 2022. Experts predict that wheat imports could see an increase of 1.3 million metric tonnes in 2023.


According to the Indonesia export data reports, total wheat exports from Indonesia worth was 26 million US Dollars in 2022. Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong are the top wheat importing nations from Indonesia.

Indonesia customs data indicates that Indonesia's agricultural imports were estimated to be 25 billion US Dollars in 2022. The major agricultural imports from Indonesia were wheat, rice, soyabean, fruit, sugar, beef and other goods.


The United States and India are the top exporters of agricultural goods to Indonesia. Wheat, Animal fodder & feeds, Soybeans, Grains, fruits, cottons, beef and dairy products are the top agricultural exports from the US to Indonesia as per US export data.


According to the India export data, rice, corn, oilseeds, ground nut, wheat, sugar, groundnut, onion and chilli are the top imports by Indonesia from India. Recently, Indonesia has suspended agricultural imports from India for a short period of time.


Soybean is the most imported item in Indonesia. According to the Indonesia trade data, there were around 2.8 million metric tons of soybeans worth 1.29 billion US Dollars imported in 2022. The United States, Canada and Argentina were the top 3 soybean exporters to Indonesia. Indonesia trends reports forecast the rise of 2%  in soybean imports from Indonesia of 5.65 million metric tons.


Being the 5th largest cotton exporter in Indonesia, the total cotton imports were 2 billion US Dollars in 2022. Brazil was the leading cotton exporter to Indonesia with worth 312 million US Dollars followed by the United States, India and China. Indonesia Agricultural imports will further increase in 2023 by 5%.
