China Exports To Africa Could Reach $200B By 2023

The African market is dominated by China exports. The bilateral trade between China and African countries rose to 35% in 2021 and it could reach 200 billion US Dollars by 2023. The African countries share a huge trade deficit with China as most of it is covered by China’s exports.  

China is an important trading partner of African countries. Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Angola and Congo are the major trading partners of China. China shares heartly trade relations with various African nations. According to the China export data records of 2022, there were around 163 billion US Dollars imports by African nations from China. Nigeria was the largest importing country from China.


On the other hand, our China import data reports reflects African countries total exports worth 117 billion US DOllars in 2022. South Africa was the leading exporter of goods to China along with Congo and Angola.


As per China import export data, the major product imports done by African countries from China were mainly electronics, textiles, machinery and food products. Whereas, crude oil, refined petroleum, iron ore and cobalt were China's main imports from African countries. Experts suggest that China’s economy will see a 4.6% growth this year as compared to 3% in 2022.

The top exporting nations from Africa to China were South Africa ($225 M), Angola ($222 M), Sudan ($54 M), Congo ($40 M), Libya (25 M), Equatorial Guinea (21 M), Congo (19 M), Zambia (17 M), Algeria (13 M) and Nigeria (12 M).


Also, China is a very crucial market for African food imports. Africa contains around 65% of the total food production. China's major food imports are cashew nuts, peppers, chilli, sesame and oil seeds. There were around 40,000 tonnes of cargo volume for agricultural goods imported from Africa to China. As per economists, China’s African agricultural imports could hit US 300 billion US Dollars by 2025.

According to the China customs data, the top importing countries of Africa from China were South Africa ($115 M), Nigeria ($80 M), Egypt ($66 M), Algeria ($44 M), Angola ($27 M), Morocco ($26 M), Ghana ($25 M), Benin ($25 M), Liberia ($22 M) and Kenya ($20 M). Electrical Equipment, Machinery, Vehicles, Plastics, Iron and Steel Articles were among the major Chinese goods imported from African countries.
