Pakistan Has Become The 5th Largest Russian Wheat Importer

Wheat shortage has become a critical issue in Pakistan especially on the eve of Ramadan. According to the Pakistan customs data reports, around 3.2 million tons of wheat worth 981 million US Dollars was imported in the fiscal year 2021. Latest forecasts suggest that the government is planning to spend 2 billion US Dollars for wheat imports to meet the growing demand in the domestic market. For the first quarter, wheat imports stood around 405 million dollars with a volume of 854K. China, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, United States and Saudi Arabia are the top wheat exporters to Pakistan.

As per Pakistan import export data statistics, the Pakistani government had signed a deal for the import of 300K wheat imports from Russia. After this, Pakistan has become the fifth largest importer of Russian wheat. Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania and Australia were other major contributors to Pakistani wheat imports.
