Surge in China's imports of semiconductor manufacturing equipment from Japan
As, Technology is evolving, the demand for semiconductors is also growing. There is a huge shortage of semiconductors in the global market. Currently, the top semiconductors suppliers are Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. Apart from China, other major markets for semiconductor exports are Singapore, Malaysia, United States, South Korea, Japan, Germany and the United States.

Japan is the second leading semiconductor supplier in the world. As per the global import export data reports, Japan has exported around $12 Billion worth of semiconductor devices during FY 2022. Japan was followed by Malaysia ($9.5 Billion), Germany ($8 Billion), and Taiwan ($6.5 Billion).

According to the latest China import export data reports, China exported around $6 Billion worth of semiconductor devices exports during May 2023 while imports were around $2.2 Billion during this period.

Our China export data reflects that the Netherlands was the top importer of semiconductor devices from China with imports worth over $1.2 Billion in 2022. The Netherlands was followed by Hong Kong, Brazil, Germany and Spain in terms of semiconductor imports from China.

On the other hand, China made a numerous amount of semiconductor devices imports during 2023. China is the second biggest importer of semiconductors in the global market. As per China import data reports, Taiwan was the leading exporter of semiconductor devices with over 23% share of the global market.

Japan was the second largest exporter of semiconductor devices with over 21.7% share of China semiconductor imports. During the financial year 2022, Japan has exported around $2.9 Billion worth of semiconductor devices to China.

As per the latest China customs data reports, there was a significant rise in China's imports of semiconductor chips from Japan.  It is reported that around $800 million worth of semiconductor chips will be imported from Japan during June 2023. Compared to the previous month, around 40% increase in China's chip imports from Japan. The reason behind this sudden rise in imports of semiconductor chips was the export restrictions imposed by Japan.

South Korea was another major semiconductor device exporter to China with over 12% share of total semiconductor imports. Other major exporters were Singapore, Malaysia, United States, Germany, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Austria, etc.

Apart from Japan, the Netherlands has blocked its silicon chips exports to China amid sanctions imposed by the United States on China. Taiwan is on the list too. Also, the United States is asking South Korea to restrict its silicon exports to China. China is an important trading partner of South Korea in terms of semiconductor chip exports. It would be very difficult for South Korea to curb its semiconductor exports to China.

Amid global semiconductor shortage, there is huge demand for semiconductor chips in vehicle manufacturing. The most challenging task is to find genuine semiconductor buyers. Through Exim Trade Data Intelligence Platform, companies are given instant access to verified semiconductor buyers from the global market.
